How's your head?  It can be easy to think about what's going on with your body, that we can push what's happening to our mind to one side.  Give a score out of 10 for the following:  - Memory  You want to be between and 8 and 10. Anything between 5 and 8 and you have some areas to improve, and anything below 5 is a real issue. As well as keeping your brain regularly active and engaged, there are certain supplements which can help to improve performance, memory, and focus.Â
Firstly, Omega 3s, be they from Fish Oil or Algae, contain DHA which plays a vital role in maintaining and protecting the structures of your brain. They can help to reduce inflammation whilst also improving thinking skills and general mood.  Caffeine can help acutely, but be aware of the longer-term effects. Whilst you may be able to concentrate better immediately, this can drop off as you experience a crash. As well as this, you can experience anxiety, mood swings, and paranoia.  Lastly, Creatine can help in a number of ways in your body, from improving your physical performance to improving your mental health. One study even found that regular supplementation can improve scores by 25-50% on memory and intelligence tests.  As well as eating the right foods, you need to make sure that you're also doing the right things day to day to improve your brain health.  Firstly, stop smoking. One study found that people who smoked more than two packs a day had twice the rate of dementia as those who didn't. Most people don't smoke more than two packs, but a little can still make a difference.  Secondly, make sure to maintain positive relationships. The better your relationships are with other people, the more they encourage you to think creatively and flex your mind muscles.  Positive thinking actually has a lot to do with how our brain functions with a happier brain also being a healthier one. It's not always easy to be happy, and nobody should be happy all the time, but in the moments you can think positively, try to.  Something you can do that directly can improve your brain health and happiness at the same time is to meditate. Aim for 5-10 minutes every day, and then work your way up when it's possible.  Crosswords and sudoku can definitely make you smarter, but really, being calm, collected, and in the moment is the key to a long-term healthy bran.  if you're looking for something more in-depth and personal, then get in touch with me and we can work together to make sure that your brain is functioning at its peak.
