Why You Need a Healthy Liver (and How to Get One) 🤒

Did you know that your brain needs a healthy liver?

Your liver regulates glucose and ammonia levels which contribute to a healthy brain, and if your liver isn't working properly, then it can severely affect your mental capabilities.

But how do you keep a healthy liver?

I've been talking about how this across my Facebook and Instagram all this week, but don't worry if you've missed it as I'll give you a quick rundown now.

Some of the Liver's most well-known jobs include creating energy and storing it, producing proteins, and helping out the immune system, but it has over 200 jobs in total.

As well as this, it holds around 10% of your body's blood and nearly 1.5 litres of the stuff is pumped through every single minute.

We now see liver transplants as semi-common place, but the first transplant back in 1963 didn't go to plan as the drugs they used for immunosuppression didn't work correctly. In 1967, the creases were ironed out and the first successful liver transplant was finally possible.

Many liver transplants are necessary due to lifestyle factors such as high alcohol consumption. Binge drinking is one of the most common factors behind liver degradation, but also, being overweight can cause non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Even if these factors do not apply to you, there are ways you can improve the health of your liver each day.

Supplements such as Milk Thistle as well as and brassica vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, etc.) contain liver-strengthening compounds which can help to keep the organ in good shape.

A japanese study once found that drinking 5-10 cups of green tea per day was associated with improved liver health, most likely due to the antioxidant levels.

Essentially, any natural foods rich in nutrients will be good for your liver, so the more natural your diet is, the healthier your liver and the rest of your body will be.
