Â
In these email you'll find informtion about:
In the UK, 1 in 6 adults have experienced a common mental health problem, such as anxiety or depression, and 1 in 5 adults have considered taking their own life.Â
Â
Unfortunately, we can't control everything that affects our mental health. There are some massive factors that are out of our hands. However, there are some influential factors that we can control, and we must, such as stress and health.
Â
The worse out health is, the more likely we are to suffer from a mental health condition. What we do for our body, also affects our mind. Therefore, we must do what we can by exercising regularly and eating a healthy diet.Â
It's now understood that having low levels of vitamin D can be a prime cause of depression. We get vitamin D from the sun, but as we all know, the UK is often hidden behind clouds. Therefore, taking supplements is the next best thing. The same goes for many B vitamins. As well as this, we now know that exercise can have an extremely positive affect on our mental health. This can seem a bit of a catch 22 for those who are worried about going to the gym, but there are hundreds of ways to exercise if you're worried about your social anxiety or fear of judgement. The main factor is boosting your heartbeat and getting a little bit of a sweat on. Â
If you've taken a turn for the worse and are not sure where to turn, book a consultation with me. Often the issues with our mental health don't start in the mind, they start in the gut and in the body. By addressing physical problem areas, we may be able to find the solution to our mental problems.
Dementia is a term used to describe a type of brain disorder that triggers the loss of brain function. Around 850,000 people are living with dementia in the UK with the number expected to rise to over 1 million by 2025.
Whilst there's no certain way to prevent against dementia, there are things you can do to help put yourself in a healthier position. For example, the NHS list diet, weight, under exercising, alcohol, and smoking as factors that can increase your risk of contracting the disorder. Therefore, by keeping our lifestyle in check, we can help to keep our brain healthy in order to prevent against any brain disorders. Â
Supplements and foods that can help with your cognitive health are:
These are just some helpful supplements, but there are many more that can be tailored specifically for your needs. Come and have a chat if you want to find out how to improve your cognition and/or prevent against any cognitive decline.Â
he entire point of the gut is to process food. Every time you eat, your food has to travel through this gut in order to be digested and broken down for energy and nutrients. However, the digestive process actually starts in your mouth as enzymes in your saliva start working on the food from the moment it hits your tongue.
Now, as everything we eat has to travel through out gut, if your gut isn’t working properly, then you’re not going to be in the healthiest condition you can be. You could have the healthiest diet in the world, but if your gut can’t pull out the nutrients it needs, then you’re still putting your health at risk. Think of this way. Your gut is like a conveyor belt constantly carrying a number of items that need to be sifted into ‘valuable’ and ‘rubbish’ by the workers standing by the side. If you’re workers are happy and healthy, all the rubbish will be discarded, and all the valuable items can be taken to be used or sold on. If your workers are tired, lethargic, grumpy, and sick, they’re going to start making some mistakes and some of those valuable items will be chucked and some of those rubbish items will be kept. By taking probiotics we can help to populate our gut with beneficial living organisms that keep everything running smoothly. You can find them naturally in fermented foods such as yogurt, sauerkraut, and kefir or you can take them as a supplement. Another good way to keep our stomach in good condition is to reduce our stress. Little do many people know, but stress can change the diversity of the bacteria in our gut which can then affect our immune system and cause breakouts on the skin. As well as this, smoking and alcohol can really do a number on our gut health and should therefore be avoided or at least minimised. Â
Supplements such as digestive enzymes and probiotics are good, but there's a lot more than can be done with herbal remedies. These include ingredients such as liquorice root, peppermint, and ginger.Â
I'm sure a good massage at your desk wouldn't be rejected by any worker, but for some reason work-place health is often neglected.Â
The average person spends 90,000 hours of their life at work which not only points to the necessity to enjoy your job, but also, the fact that you need to take care of yourself at these times. Sitting down at a desk isn't the best when it comes to our health nor our happiness. Because of it, we can often find ourselves hunching, aching, gaining wait, tired, and so much more. Massage at work week may be pointed at one solution for employers to improve workplace health, but we should also take some responsibility for ourselves. Simple tips such as stretching your legs every now and again, exercising outside of work, not snacking or bringing healthy snacks, getting good sleep opposed to relying on caffeine, and moving whenever possible can make a big difference. Our body's were built to move, and therefore, we need to do get as much movement in as we can each and every time. |
